After completing an MBA at the University of Houston, in 1978, David began his career in the Trust Investment Department of the Texas Commerce Bank in Houston, Texas. For the next 22 years he gained extensive experience as a securities analyst and a portfolio manger for a bank, a mutual fund complex and an investment counsel firm. In 1982 he successfully completed the series of exams to become a Chartered Financial Analyst®. “The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation is a globally recognized standard for measuring the competence and integrity of investment professionals.”
In 2008 David was authorized by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) to use the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and in accordance with CFP Board certification and renewal requirements. These marks identify those individuals who have met the rigorous experience and ethical requirements of the CFP Board, have successfully completed financial planning coursework and have passed the CFP® Certification Examination covering the following areas: the financial planning process, risk management, investments, tax planning and management, retirement and employee benefits, and estate planning. CFP® certificants also agree to meet ongoing continuing education requirements and to uphold the CFP Board’s Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and Financial Planning Practice Standards.
In the fall of 2000 David started an insurance agency for the Allstate Insurance Company. The goal of the agency was to serve both the insurance needs and the financial planning needs of his clients; however, over the course of 6 years as an insurance agent and financial planner he realized that giving objective advice as a financial planner did not fit with being an insurance salesman. So he sold the insurance agency and opened an independent financial planning practice based on the fee-only (commission-free) model.
While many financial advisors only accept clients that meet certain income and net worth requirements, David believes that independent, objective financial advice is something all Americans need to build the brightest financial futures. Holding to this philosophy, David is proud to offer the same quality, professional advice to all clients, not just the affluent.
Whether you need a one-time or periodic consultation, he is happy to meet with you on an as-needed, hourly basis. If you prefer to work on an ongoing or scheduled/repeat basis (much like returning to see your dentist or doctor year after year), you will find his service model to be a highly flexible and beneficial structure for support.
Give David a call at 816-792-2550 to schedule a no-obligation get acquainted consultation to ensure the right fit for your needs. Whether you need a comprehensive financial plan, help with a specific financial issue, investment advice or a second opinion on your current investment plan, David is ready to help you achieve financial freedom.
